Doug brings nearly three decades of industry knowledge and experience to his role as financial advisor and founder of Verley Financial. He is a recipient of the CFP, or Certified Financial Planner designation, which requires experience, examination, and ongoing education and ethics requirements. A cornerstone of Doug’s philosophy as a financial advisor is to deliver peace of mind to his clients by providing sound, individualized financial advice.
Active in his church, Canton Lutheran, Doug is a former congregational president, board member, teacher, endowment member and stewardship leader. He has also served on several other non-profit boards. He has coached a variety of youth sports over the years and currently enjoys attending his grandson’s games. An avid outdoorsman, Doug enjoys both hunting and fishing.
Laura completed her undergraduate work at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD. She attended law school at the University of St. Thomas School of Law in Minneapolis, MN on a full-tuition academic scholarship. Laura joined Verley Financial in 2008, after spending several years practicing as an estate planning attorney. During that time she helped clients in both Minnesota and South Dakota successfully preserve and pass on their wealth. Laura’s legal background and experience provides her clients with a unique perspective as a financial advisor.
She obtained her Chartered Retirement Planning Specialist or CRPS® designation in 2010 to enable her to better serve our business clients with design, implementation, and management of their company retirement plans. Her professional credentials also include Series 7 and 66 securities registrations, as well as life, health and annuities licenses. In addition, Laura is a member of the South Dakota State Bar Association.
Laura is serving as a member of the board of directors for the Sioux Falls Estate Planning Council and is a Lincoln County 4-H leader. She and her husband, Steve, love to travel when they can squeeze time away from the “farm” and whatever project they have planned next.
Julie is responsible for Verley Financial’s daily operating activities, including client services, marketing, management of new business submissions, and a wide variety of organizational tasks supporting Doug and Laura. Her professional credentials include Series 6 and Series 63 securities registrations, as well as having licenses in health and life insurance. In addition to her duties as operations manager for the office, Julie is also the health care specialist.
Julie has been very active in her community, where she is currently serving as president of the Canton Public School District K-12 Foundation board, of which she was a founding member in 2008. She was a school board member for nine years, and served three years as vice-president. She has served on several other boards, including the Minn-IA-Kota Girl Scouts, Sanford Hospital Canton-Inwood, and Canton Community Education. Recently, Julie was elected as president-elect for her church, Canton Lutheran and will next year assume the responsibilities of the presidency for her congregation.
A graduate of Concordia College in Moorhead, MN in elementary education and English, her hobbies include travel, music, the arts, reading, and attending her grandson, Kayden’s sporting events. She loves spending time at the lake, but especially enjoys being with her family and friends. Doug and Julie have three grown children, Laura, Rachel, and Brian.
